  • Financial Aid Policies and Procedures

Indian Mountain School awards financial aid to families based on the demonstrated need of the family and the availability of school funds.
Indian Mountain School awards financial aid based on the demonstrated need of the family and the availability of school funds.

Indian Mountain School financial aid awards by the committee by following the guidelines set forth by the School and Student Services (SSS) by NAIS.  This service provides schools with information and guidelines for making equitable financial aid awards based on demonstrated need. The IMS Committee considers many factors during this annual application process, including the following:
    • income and assets
    • number of dependents
    • number of your children attending tuition-charging institutions
    • allowances for certain unusual expenses
The Report of Family Contribution, provided by SSS, is used as a guide by Indian Mountain School’s Financial Aid Committee to make an appropriate award.  Though our commitment to aid is solid, our resources lessen as awards are made and accepted.  Consequently, it is imperative that your financial information is completed and submitted promptly.

Financial aid requests are reviewed only by the Financial Aid Committee and kept in the strictest of confidence.  The information submitted is not part of the student’s permanent school file. Financial aid decisions will be made independently of admissions decisions.

Financial aid awards are made annually and returning students must reapply each year.  Each financial aid recipient is expected to perform academically at a level commensurate with his or her ability and to adhere to the School’s standards of personal conduct.
  • Applying for Financial Aid

In December, financial aid procedural reminders are sent from Indian Mountain School’s Financial Aid office to the families of:
    • Returning students currently receiving financial assistance
    • New students who have indicated a request for financial aid on the application for admissions
    • Others upon request to the Financial Aid office
    1. Complete the PFS and submit the document to SSS by NAIS within 15 days of Admissions Acceptance. You can submit online at
    2. The school also requires a copy of your 2019 federal tax Form 1040, along with W-2's. All forms can be uploaded to the website, mailed, or emailed to IMS.
    3. In the case of divorced or separated parents, both parents must file the PFS form. Because tuition assistance awards are based on a family’s ability to pay, the income and resources of both parents must be considered.
    4. In the case of unmarried domestic partners who live in and contribute to the same household, both must complete the PFS jointly or independently of each other.

    • A financial aid application is not complete until it includes the completed PFS, and a copy of the appropriate IRS tax information as requested.
