Indian Mountain School graduates flourish at a wide range of secondary schools
, including the nation’s most prestigious. Creative thinkers and active leaders, they carry with them the confidence, compassion, and dynamism that are the hallmarks of IMS graduates.
Parents praise the IMS school placement process, which is as intensively individualized as the educational experience. The goal is to find for each student the school where his or her knowledge and growth will best continue.
Upper Campus students begin learning about the secondary school process in morning meeting announcements describing the dozens of representatives from secondary schools who visit IMS each fall. In the spring, the secondary school advisor meets individually with each eighth grader and invites parents of eighth graders to a group gathering to learn more about the process that will carry them through the discovery, interview, application, and acceptance phases in their ninth grade. She gets to know each student well and assists families with all aspects of the admissions process. She coaches students on interviewing, SSAT preparation, and essay writing, coordinates and reviews teacher recommendations, and helps register students for the SSAT test, which is offered on campus.
