Congratulations to Our Graduates

Parents, students, faculty, staff, and alums gathered under the tent at the edge of Osgood Field for Indian Mountain School’s eighty-eighth graduation ceremony on Friday, June 10, 2011. The breezy, beautiful weather set the scene as 42 upbeat ninth graders and 21 departing eighth-graders bid farewell to their friends and teachers before heading off for the summer and on to secondary school. Anton Kuskin played the flute, accompanied by Donald Sosin while everyone took their seats and then  Piper K. Lee Collins led the procession of honorees.

Mr. Devey welcomed everyone with opening remarks, and the exciting day began. The Reverend Heidi Truax, Vicar of Trinity Lime Rock gave the invocation. Ms. Joanna Seaton, accompanied by Donald Sosin, led us all in singing America the Beautiful, and Mr. Ram Miles directed a group of IMS musicians in a performance of Beautiful Things written by ninth grader Emma Herrmann and a rockin’ rendition of Twist & Shout by The Beatles. The Mountain Voices later performed Because You Loved Me by Diane Warren.

Mr. Devey also honored departing trustees Miguel W. de Bragança ’65, P ’01 and Suk Mynn Yoon P’10 and introduced our 2011 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, John R. Rodgers from the class of 1951. After receiving his award, Mr. Rodgers addressed the graduates with a message that spotlighted his years of community service and encouraged students to be involved.

Next, the ninth grade giving committee presented the ninth grade gift to the school–a new bell will be on board to ring in the 2011-2012 school year thanks to their generous annual fund donation. Mr. Devey and Mr. Fowler presented the graduates with their diplomas, and departing eighth graders received certificates at the ceremony as well.

After the ceremony, graduates and their families enjoyed a delicious lunch in the dining hall before saying their goodbyes for the summer. We expect everyone to stay in touch with our Alumni Office and return to the IMS campuses often!
