Torrential rains and cold temperatures were not enough to keep the determined athletes of Indian Mountain and Millbrook from competing in their soccer match at Indian Mountain on Friday, October 15.  The wet and slippery conditions created a fast paced game played mostly in the backfields of both teams.  Many passes were through balls that skidded over the wet grass like well tossed stones skipping across shallow water.  The Falcons played very hard during the game, and Coach Donovan believes they are coming together as a team.  When asked about the players’ performance, Coach Donovan commented, “(IMS) stuck to our game plan throughout the match by staying composed with the ball, never giving up on a play, and limiting touches on the ball in our defensive end.” He went on to praise the boys’ efforts in practice by saying, “They are working very hard and having fun doing it.”  The varsity boys clearly looked ready for upcoming challenges during the tough match.

There were several noteworthy performances by IMS athletes.  On the offensive end, the Indian Mountain attack was maintained by Dan, Nicky, Memo, Tim, and Dimitrios.  Dan scored in the second half to tie the game at one all.  The goal was assisted by Nicky off a free kick inside the Millbrook eighteen.  The IMS defensive squad also played an oustanding game.  Led by the efforts Colin, Emmet, and Alassane, Indian Mountain remained aggressive against the older and more experienced Millbrook players throughout the entire game.  In addition, Jake pounced quickly on incoming ball as he diligenlty defended the net.  He continues to show improved play each game as the team’s goalie.

The boys look forward to playing their next match against Marvelwood on Wednesday following their return from Parents Weekend.
