The annual IMS Hoops For Food charity event, sponsored by the Upper School Community Service Program, was a rousing success in 2011. Students and faculty collaborated to donate food for families in need during the holiday season. In an effort to raise awareness, students and faculty played basketball. The admissions fee to attend the event was one dry or canned food item.

IMS delivered the food to the local food pantry–OWL’s Kitchen in Lakeville, CT–along with money raised from the boarding students, which was used to purchase additional groceries. The boarders donated from their allowance money to support this cause. The day students, faculty, and staff also contributed a number of non-perishable food items.

Many students, faculty, and staff played on a number of teams for a fun-filled afternoon of IMS basketball. The afternoon culminated with the annual all-student co-ed team taking on the co-ed faculty team. In an intense ebb and flow, the students jumped to an early double-digit lead, with the faculty roaring back to take a lead and win the tough battle!

During the Thanksgiving break, IMS students Ellie and Hannah Stewart, Mr. Stewart, Mrs. McChesney, and Mrs. Knapp delivered large boxes and bags of food to OWL’s Kitchen, replenishing bare shelves with supplies to help feed families in need.

Thanks to the IMS Community for helping to make this annual event a success.
