It has been another successful week of strong athletics at Indian Mountain School. We’re one week away from the Centennial Celebration and the first game to be played on the new turf at Centennial Field! The community looks forward to another string of contests as we approach the halfway point of the Fall season.

Varsity Girls Soccer hosted Miss Hall’s School Varsity team this past Friday. The team set the tone on offense and went into the half up 3-0 with goals and assists by Jocyline and Emma. Miss Hall’s came into the second half with more determination. Despite this, IMS added one more goal, while Katherine and our defense kept a clean sheet, ending the game with a score of 4-0. The whole team earned considerable playing time and did a great job of distributing the ball to one another. After their impressive victory over a high school varsity team, Varsity Girls Soccer looks forward to another competitive match on Friday vs. Housey. 

JV Girls Soccer kicked off this week with a Monday game versus a Region 1 team. The Falcons were ready to battle the weather in order to get some solid passes, shots and runs up the field. The opposing team had a physical edge over our determined Falcons, who gave it their all. Frances made some great runs up the field. Coco had some phenomenal saves in the first half. Ryan did well distributing the ball in order to create space and moments for our team. Caroline, Sofia, Niamh and Winter all facilitated many opportunities to get a shot on net. They lost the game but can feel proud of their teamwork. This up and coming squad is gearing up for their games on Thursday vs. WMS and next Wednesday vs. Kent Center. 

Boys Varsity Soccer battled to the end in their game at home versus Putnam Science Academy this past Friday. Putnam Science had a team stacked full of older and larger players, making the game was a physical challenge. The Falcons fell short, but went on to their next game with heads held high. The game versus Millbrook on Monday was a competitive one with a final score of 2-2. Keep Boys Varsity Soccer on your radar as they take on Hotchkiss 3rd. 

JV Boys Soccer capped off their week with a 7v7 tournament at Dutchess Day School on Friday. The Falcons battled hard and came out with numerous victories in that tournament. The following Monday, IMS played a Region 1 team that had a significant size advantage. The opponent’s experience level was tough to match. The Falcons fell short in that game, but did score 2 goals. The JV Boys soccer team will push hard again in a Friday home game against Berkshire Country Day School.

5th and 6th Soccer played in a 7v7 tournament at Dutchess Day School this past Friday. At the tournament, 5/6 soccer was divided into two teams:  Apples and Bananas. Both teams played a number of games. The team called Bananas made it furthest, making it to the semi-finals against Rumsey, and then coming up short by only 1 goal that game. IMS finished third place at the tournament. The DDS tournament was followed by an outstanding performance versus Washington Montessori School. IMS came out on top with a whopping 8-3 score. Raife scored, and Miles scored impressive 7 goals! 

Cross Country had a phenomenal performance at their meet at Rumsey Hall this past Friday coming away victorious for the first time in years against Rumsey. The following players improved their mile paces during this race: Jose (11 sec), Alpa (56 sec), Jaime (6 sec), Chico (7 sec) Margaret (25 sec), Mateo (25 sec), Jack (11 sec) Sasha (19 sec), Fede (8 sec) Becca (5 sec), Ingrid (6 sec) Jasper AP (48 sec), Andrew (7 sec), Zyire (14 sec). Congrats to the whole teams for a strong finish!

 

 Mountain Biking had to reschedule their meet at Hotchkiss due to weather. In the meantime, the team has been working hard to improve their performance and tighten their skills. The team has been maintaining trails and utilizing campus facilities to up their game. Be on the lookout this next week for Mountain Biking’s race against Trinity Pawling. 

 

Varsity Volleyball had an incredible performance this Wednesday at home against Miss Hall’s School. The team solidified their victory by beating out Miss Hall’s in a definitive 2 sets. Varsity Volleyball hopes to keep their momentum going as they take on Taft at Home on Friday, and Miss Hall’s again on Monday. 

JV Volleyball has been practicing hard and working on their game this past week. The team plays Rumsey Hall at home on Friday. This will be a competitive game, as JV volleyball has been improving their technique and are eager to claim their next victory. Come support the team this Friday at home against Rumsey.
