Indian Mountain School students have been eager to put their math skills to the test in a variety of organized math competitions.

On November 15, 2017, a group of 37 of our seventh and eighth graders took the AMC 8 test, which is a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development of problem-solving skills. AMC stands for the American Mathematics Competitions from the Mathematical Association of America (MAA).

 
Top three recognized at IMS:
#1 – Harry Chang. IMS winner. Honor Roll of Distinction – scored in top 1% nationally.
#2 – Eric Zhang. IMS second place. Honor Roll of Distinction – scored in top 1% nationally.
#3 – Sinclair Shen. IMS third place. Honor Roll Certificate – scored in top 5% nationally

Our MATHCOUNTS Team of four eighth graders (Harry Chang, Ryan Eom, Sinclair Shen, and Eric Zhang) participated in the MATHCOUNTS Competition Series at the regional level in Waterbury, CT on Feb 17, 2017. The team was recognized for the following distinctions:

  • Second place team overall
  • Most Improved team
  • Eric got second place overall score for the competition
  • Sinclair got third place in the countdown round
  • QUALIFIED as a TEAM for the STATES but could not attend because it was during our March break.***
A record number of IMS students (17) signed up for the AMC 10 at Hotchkiss on February 15, 2017. The students included Albert An, Alex Yoon, Mason Zhao, Sophie Kim, Damian Ding, Hans Shen, Nick Chung, Kamal Ibrahim, Harry Chang, Eric Zhang, Sinclair Shen, Hanyan Cai, Ryan Eom, Jesse Kwon, Sarah Li, Sally Shi, and Jin Chey.
