As our 12 teams competing this spring make their way into the bulk of competitions, the falcons have found success and continue to show improvement as the season progresses. Over the course of the past few weeks, tryouts were completed, rosters solidified, and captains named. With temperatures starting to rise, so is the level of competition.

The Varsity Softball team, lead by captains Katherine LaFond, Greta Dunavant, Dailyn Simancas Alcazar, and Esther Lee took a loss but fought hard during their home opener against Miss Hall’s School on Wednesday, April 13th. With many returning players and a deeper bench than ever the Falcons look to defeat Sherman Middle School on the road on April 20th.

Varsity Baseball and JV Baseball have had a few weeks to determine what their best look is for their season openers and have been practicing hard and preparing for their first games of the season. On Wednesday, April 20, the Varsity team will compete against Renbrook School, with JV competing against Berkshire Waldorf for their season opener later in the season.

Many athletes on the Varsity Golf team had the opportunity to train with Coach Miles and Coach Vorenberg during the fall non-competitive season and are able to show off their skills against local golf teams this season. The team trains on campus at IMS as well as at local driving ranges and courses. On Wednesday, April 13, the Falcons competed in their first match against Hotchkiss School. Hotchkiss won the match but the team was proud with their effort and excited to get back to work.

On Wednesday, April 13, the Varsity Tennis team traveled to Renbrook and were able to secure a 7-1 victory. The four Falcons who competed won all of their singles matches with wins from Minnie Li, Beck Collins, Max Blumenthal, and Wynn Stern. Three out of four doubles matches were won including a 6-3 win for Juan Pablo Camarena and Mariano Carrera Lacayo, and 6-1 wins for Tate Collins and Ella Armstrong, as well as duo Fritz Weihman and Charlie Nogaki. The team will look to bring home another win against Trinity Pawling on Friday.

The JV Tennis team is now 1-2 on the season with two close losses to Dutchess Day School both home and away, and a big win against Renbrook School at home. The team was able to defeat the hawks 6-2 and showed great progress from their first match of the season.

The Varsity Girls Lacrosse team is currently undefeated with two games under their belts. The Falcons opened up the season on the road with a game against Millbrook Junior Varsity Team. Most recently, the team traveled to Taft School where they won 8-6 in a close match up. This week, the team is working on some of their weaknesses highlighted in their opening games and they are excited for their upcoming home opener against Miss Hall’s.

The JV Girls Lacrosse team dug deep against the Litchfield Hills lacrosse team during their first game of the season. The game resulted in a 12-12 tie with many members of the team competing in their first ever lacrosse game.

The Varsity Boys Lacrosse team opened up the season with a close win, 6-5 over Millbrook in overtime. After a gritty battle the Falcons showed some of the potential they hold and look to fine tune their skills and strength they have as a team. They traveled to Eaglebrook School to face a very formidable opponent and lost by a considerable margin. But playing talented teams illuminates areas to work on and the team is ready to address these gaps and get back out there. Their next competition is on Friday, April 15 against a talented Taft team.

The Ultimate Frisbee team was new to IMS last year, as numbers and interest in the sport grew. Last spring, there were no games but this year, they have taken the next step and become a competitive team. They will compete in their first ever game this week.

Look for more updates as the IMS teams continue their season. Go Falcons!
