On Friday, the Falcons traveled down Route 41 to compete against Berkshire.  Unfortunately, the Falcons ended the month of April with their first lost of the season, losing 5-2 to Berkshire.

Indian Mountain began the day winning two of three doubles matches.  Teaming up for the first time this season, Alton and Lee, playing #1 doubles, overwhelmingly defeated two former IMS alums by a score of 8-2. Derek and Jason teamed up at #2 doubles to come away with a well deserved 8-5 victory.  At #3 doubles, the team of Orson and Jack lost 8-3, although most of the matches they lost came down to the wire.  The Falcons came away with the doubles point and headed into singles competition with a 1-0 lead.

Alton and his opponent put on one of the finest displays of tennis seen this year.  Playing at #1 singles, Alton and his opponent battled back and forth, but, in the end, his opponent pulled away for an 8-6 victory. Lee battled hard throughout his sets but lost by a score of 8-4.  At #3 singles, John ended up losing by a score of 8-6 in a very competitive match-up.  Maria, playing #4 singles, ultimately lost to her opponent by a score of 8-4. Derek, playing at #5 singles, came away as the sole IMS singles winner of the day with an 8-4 victory.  Playing #6 singles, Luke, lost by a score of 8-3.  Despite the losses, the experience provided IMS athletes excellent experience against skilled opposition.

Due to the amazing weather and abundance of courts open to play, the coaches agreed to play additional “exhibition” matches.  Michael and Alejandro teamed up to play doubles for the first time this season. Although, they did an excellent job communicating with one another and getting into proper positioning for doubles they ended up losing 8-3.  In exhibition singles, Alejandro, #7 singles, defeated his opponent by a score of 8-3.  Michael, playing #8 singles, outmatched his opponent and came away victorious with a score of 8-1.  Jason, at #9 singles, defeated his opponent in an exciting 9-7 victory.

Despite suffering their first loss of the season, the Falcons kept their heads up and look forward to competing at Hotchkiss on Monday.  The Falcons record now stands at 3-1.
