Welcome from the Head of School

It takes courage to stray from the expected path. That courage is something we witness every day.

IMS is a truly special place. From the moment you arrive on campus, you can feel the deep sense of connection that defines our community: the warmth and dedication of our faculty and staff, the joy and curiosity of our students, and the shared commitment of all who call IMS home.

IMS is more than a school. It’s a diverse and inclusive environment grounded in meaningful relationships, where children are encouraged to be curious, to take risks, and to embrace the adventure of learning while also celebrating the joy of childhood.

Together, our teachers and students navigate an increasingly complex world with intellect, creativity, equity, and optimism. We don’t shy away from difficult conversations; we approach them with honesty, compassion, and respect.

The Mountain provides a unique learning environment for both day and boarding students, from Pre-K through Grade 9. At IMS, we believe that growth rarely follows a straight line. As our Strategic Plan reminds us:

“The paths taken at IMS are just like the paths up our mountain: different for everyone, rarely in a straight line, and ultimately rewarded with new perspectives, an expansive view, the spirit of possibility, and the tools necessary for the challenges and opportunities ahead.”

It takes courage to stray from the expected path and that courage is something we witness every day in our students, guided and supported by an exceptional team of educators and staff.

Thank you for your interest in Indian Mountain School. I invite you to explore our website and, more importantly, to visit us on the Mountain. There’s no better way to experience the spirit and possibility of IMS.

This We Believe

“My friendships exemplify the importance of learning from those around you and reciprocating that knowledge. It is this willingness not only to share but to learn, that I think is a key qualification to being a good soul.”
