During the week of December 3-6, Sarah Burrill from Freedom From Chemical Dependency (FCD) is working with students, faculty, and parents around issues concerning chemical dependency. FCD is a non-profit organization based in Needham, MA that provides alcohol, tobacco, and other drug education for schools and colleges in the United States and abroad. Since 1977, FCD instructors have taught over a million students of all ages. Their mission is to:
  • Provide students, parents, teachers, and school administrators with up-to-date information on the physiological and psychological effects of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs
  • Empower young people to make healthy, responsible choices regarding alcohol and other drug use
  • Encourage and support the non-use of alcohol and other drugs during adolescence
  • Teach students and adults how to recognize the early warning signs of chemical dependency and to intervene appropriately
The sixth and ninth grades participate in the four-day course to teach them about these issues and how to make healthy decisions in their lives. One of the big supports for our students during this week iss to teach them what to do if they are concerned about a friend, loved one, or family member.
Sarah will conduct a faculty workshop on Tuesday and a parent coffee on Wednesday morning, December 5. If you have questions concerning the program, please contact Lauren Frankenbach, LCSW.
