On Thursday, Jan. 31, Sam Posey’s annual juried art contest and exhibit was held at Indian Mountain School for the sixth consecutive year. This event brings together local artists and art enthusiasts to celebrate a diverse range of works, which will hang in the IMS Student Center through March 1, 2019. This year’s theme was “Sanctuary,” and 2019 judges included Theo Coulombe, a photographer and director of Standard Space gallery in Sharon, CT;  Terri Moore, a painter, art instructor at The Hotchkiss School, and co-director of Tremaine Art Gallery; and Frank Oz, a renowned actor, puppeteer, director, and producer. The art show received a record 94 submissions, 25 of which were selected to be reviewed by a panel of jurors and currently hang in the Student Center.

The first place prize of $5,000 went to John Atchley for his piece, titled, “Passages #10/35,” a photograph of Humayun’s tomb in Delhi, India. The second place prize of $3,500 was awarded to Barbara Ehlers for her piece, titled,  “Vancouver Island Shelter.” The third place prize of $1,500 was awarded to Colin McLain for his painting, titled “Margin Walker.”
