After graduating with a Master’s degree in the Teaching of English from Columbia University’s Teachers College, Amy began her career as a high school English and history teacher. She went on to teach fifth grade for fourteen years at Hunter College Elementary School in New York City, a public laboratory school for intellectually gifted and talented children. Amy then joined The School at Columbia University, where she taught fourth grade before spending eighteen years teaching middle school English and history. She has presented at the national and international levels on topics ranging from Identity Explorations in Diverse Urban Laboratory Schools in Venice, Italy, to Layering Literacies: Teaching the Holocaust through Graphic Novels to reach diverse learners across disciplines, at the National Conference of Teachers of English (NCTE). A native New Yorker, Amy has since relocated to South Egremont, Massachusetts, with her family and is excited to continue her career as a middle school English teacher at IMS.
