ON THE PITCH

The 5th/6th Grade Soccer Team has continued to prove themselves as a team to lookout for as the season progresses. The group split into two teams and represented IMS at the Dutchess Day Tournament on Friday the 5th.  Both “Team Argentina” and “Team Brazil” fought hard and performed well in a competitive tournament hosted by Dutchess Day school. Over a series of four games against competitive opponents, Team Argentina went undefeated (4-0) only seceding one goal over the course of four games. They exemplified strong defending and goaltending with athletes working hard across all positions on the field.  This game play lead them to win the entire tournament and add another trophy to the IMS Athletics collection. In addition, Team Brazil fought hard and came in third place with strong goaltending by Tyler and Ryher throughout the day.

The Junior Varsity Boys Soccer Team has continued to work hard and find success over the past couple of weeks. Also attending the Dutchess Day Tournament the boys were split into two teams which both competed well and had matching records of 2 wins and 2 losses on the day. With only one loss in the regular season and an impressive record of 3-1 the boys will look to take rematch and defeat Trinity Pawling which is their only regular season loss so far this Fall.

Coming in with an impressive record of 9-1 at this point in the season, the Boys Varsity Soccer Team has continued to find their stride. Despite the rain and tough field conditions the Falcons started the week off strong on Monday October 7th with a 4-2 win against Housatonic Valley Regional High School. Furthermore, they continued their win streak last friday beating Hotchkiss in a low scoring match, 2-0. The boys will look to continue their win streak as they rematch Berkshire school and seek revenge after a tough loss in their season opener.

Heading into the second half of the season, Girls Varsity Soccer has placed particular emphasis on off ball movement and distributing efficiently. Furthermore, a tough game against Bement identified the need to work on some basic defensive principles. After a battle against Bement which exposed new gaps in play the girls have responded and found extra motivation after being challenged in ways they were not earlier in the season. All members of this team are coming together and learning to trust one another as they prepare for the second half of the season.

ON THE TRAIL

The Cross Country Team has continued to find their stride as the season continues. In their meet against Maplebrook on Friday the 27th the Girls Cross Country team swept the finish taking the top three spots in their race. Harper, Ingrid, and June (respectively) swept the top three places on the podium. In addition, the team came in 2nd out of 6 schools at the Rumsey Hall Invitational and continue to impress at meets. Despite nagging injuries and rainy fall weather at this point in the season, the team has continued to find consistency and push themselves to run faster and beat their personal best times.

After weeks of training on their mountain trail the Mountain Biking Team had a very successful first meet against South Kent. The trail was challenging  and technical with lots of climbing which wore down riders quickly. All the students gave it their best, their spirits were high, and they clearly enjoyed the course at South Kent School.  Alan came in second in the “C” category to start the season off strong and Darien competed in his first mountain bike race and did a fantastic job. The race provided insight into some ways the team may improve our own course and will continue to motivate everyone to work hard until their next competition.

According to Coach Clayton, all five members of the Equestrian Team have shown improvement headed into the middle of the season. Indian Mountain School is pleased to offer riding as an option for athletes in the Fall and another exciting opportunity for students to  become passionate about and pursue. The team has been riding at Coole Park in Amenia, a beautiful facility with dependable lesson horses to suit every level. IMS is excited to continue offering riding to students and follow the success of athletes while growing the program for years to come.

IN THE GYM

Nearing the halfway mark of the season the Varsity Volleyball Team has faced tough competition and shown their resilience in many ways. On September 30th the Falcons fought hard against  Rumsey to make it to a tie breaking fifth set after a tough loss in the first set of the match. The girls fought hard to the end, showing grit and determination while working to break the opponent’s serve and dig deeper as a unit. The girls fought hard until the end of the match ending in a close 16-14 loss.

Showing even more resilience, the girls didn’t let the tough loss against Rumsey get them down and used it as fuel to work hard and come out strong against Miss Halls a few days later. They defeated Miss Halls in three quick games to win the match leaving them  2-3 on the season. The girls next competition is against Hotchkiss who will be seeking revenge against IMS. IMS and Hotchkiss are currently 1-1 on the season after IMS lost to Hotchkiss in one of the first weeks of school and later responded to exploit their weaknesses and defeat Hotchkiss the following week.

After a few weeks of practice and preparation the JV Volleyball Team is off to a positive start. With strong serving and impressive confidence and poise shown by athletes (both returners and newcomers alike) the team defeated Oakwood Friends 2-1 in their season opener. Many athletes competed in their first competitive match ever and Coach Statile was very impressed by the sportsmanship and energy the team brought to the match. The girls were challenged by Rumsey the week after and were tested in different ways than before as Rumsey exposed different strengths and weaknesses in their play.  The team will continue to be more aggressive on the court and be consistent on their serves in order to secure a few more wins this season.

The Hotchkiss golf course provides a variety of holes that test the athletes skills and begin to prepare them for the competitive spring season well in advance. With a variety of athletes from grades 7 through 9 each athlete has been developing their strokes and striving to become consistent and competitive players.

We look forward to seeing parents and fans at our many competitions during Parents Weekend! View the athletics schedule for Friday, October 18 here.
