The JV Hockey team arrived at Simsbury Farms ready for its first matchup of the season on Wednesday. With Renbrook its adversary, mild temperatures, and a sun-filled sky, the kids were ready to hit the ice in the outdoor rink.  Fortunately for this year’s team, the skaters did not have to deal with subfreezing temperatures and gusting wind like in previous year’s.

The first period was highlighted by the phenomenal play of eighth grade goalie Daniel. At the end of the period, Daniel had given up only one goal and already made 10 saves. He tactfully controlled the puck whenever it came near him and kept IMS in the game. The first period ended with Renbrook up 1-0. The Falcons’ lone shot on net in the period came from ninth grade forward Molly, who almost scored on a screened wrist shot from the hash marks.

The second period saw Renbrook take more control on offense, which resulted in four more goals. When the buzzer went off at the end of three periods, the score was Renbrook 6, Indian Mountain 0. For its first game, the team played very well, and, on the whole, they were able to compete with spirit and aggression.

The game puck goes to Daniel who had 16 saves and gave up three goals during 1.5 periods of play. Honorable mention to Will for tough defensive play throughout the game.

IMS Falcons JV Hockey team’s next game will be Friday, January 22 at 4:15 @ Millbrook School.
