In the fall of 2022, Head of School Jody Soja fooled everyone into thinking she was going to unveil a new falcon statue on Centennial Field. A big box was on the field and everyone gathered around for the big reveal. It was actually just a ruse for mascot Freddie the Falcon jump out and announce Mountain Day. Well, now that “fake” falcon has become a reality.

After current parent and alumni, Justin Renshaw ‘88 saw the Mountain Day video last year, he called together a group of his IMS friends to commission an actual bronze falcon statue to be placed next to Centennial Field. Justin would have a particular interest in making this happen — after all, he is credited with creating our falcon mascot during his time here at IMS. 

This beautiful bronze “Freddie” now stands watch outside the Morehead Athletic Center and Centennial Field
