A new IMS community member’s first days on campus.
by Michelle Booth

Indian Mountain School welcomed me officially on July 29 and I couldn’t be happier to be here. Coming from another boarding school, I had a little bit of an idea of what to expect to find during the summer months, but I was surprised to see that despite the students and the faculty being away for the summer the campus is still very busy. The maintenance crew is busy painting, mowing, and making needed repairs. They are working hard to get everything ready for the start of school. The Admissions, Secondary School, Head of School, and Residential Life offices, along with all of the administrative staff, are busy enrolling the new students and getting everything set up for registration and the start of the new school year.

Many faculty and staff have stopped by to introduce themselves. Everyone at Indian Mountain School has been very welcoming and helpful. The grounds are beautiful, the view from my office window is stunning in the morning sunlight as is the view from most of the offices in the main building. The peace pole is one of the first things I noticed and a great piece of Indian Mountain School’s history. Student artwork can be seen everywhere around the school and adds a personal touch.
As a new employee of Indian Mountain it has been easy to settle in thanks to the kindness of everyone here. Sarah Baird, the new alumni relations and development coordinator, started in June and when asked how she is settling in said, “Being at IMS has been great!” Charles Brown, a returning former employee who is the new director of faculty, said, “I have always wanted to return to this community because of the people. There is really no other place like it when it comes to a community of people that love where they work and what they are doing. It is the people who make this place what it is and hopefully what is will always be. When I say people I mean everyone: administrators, faculty, students, parents, staff, maintenance crew, kitchen crew, etc.”

I could not have said it any better, I am very happy to be here at Indian Mountain School and look forward to what the start of school, future months, and years will bring.

We would love to hear first impressions from other newcomers to the IMS community. Whether you are visiting our redesigned website for the first time, joining our distinguished faculty, or starting your first days as a new student, let us know what you think!
