Tom Pastore has announced that he is stepping down from his many roles at Indian Mountain School to pursue other opportunities. Tom has been an invaluable presence at IMS for 17 years. In addition to his important administrative duties for the past eight years as Head of Upper School and as Dean of Students before that, he has also coached soccer, football, basketball, lacrosse, and baseball; taught math, history, and Latin; and is an IMS parent to alumni Sam and Kate, class of 2011. His wife Debbie served as the Director of Development at IMS from 1994 to 1996. Tom’s more than 25 years of experience as an educator and his deep institutional knowledge of IMS will be greatly missed as will his sharp wit and dry sense of humor. Always the one to define and enforce the rules and remind students about their responsibility to the IMS motto of honesty, compassion, and respect, Tom balanced that serious side of his job with a lighthearted sense of play. The sly hint that some errant behavior may “unleash The Pastore” drew both smiles and compliance among our community of sometimes unwieldy middle schoolers. It is with fondness, appreciation, and respect that Indian Mountain says farewell to Tom Pastore. We hope he will come back for a visit and a game of cribbage or aggravation from time to time.
