The varsity girls basketball team earned the third place award in the Greenwich Country Day School Tournament.  The team was victorious in three out of five games, and, after playing over eighty minutes of basketball, the captains, Haley and Love, accepted the award on behalf of the team.

Every player contributed to the successful tournament, many having their most productive moments of the season.  After the two-hour commute, in their first game, the Falcons were a little slow to warm-up.  They were dominated in their first game against Rippowam Cisqua, who would go on to win the tournament. IMS bounced back in the next three games, defeating New Canaan Country School, Green Vale, and Rumsey Hall. In their last game of the day, the exhausted eight remaining healthy players were outrun by a deeper, more fresh Greenwich Country Day team.

Throughout the tournament, Anna and Love led the team on offense. Haley controlled the ball in key moments of the game against Rumsey Hall. Kate flustered her opponents with consistent defensive pressure. Claire, Nina, and Eva played supporting roles on defense and took important shots on offense. Dede scored four points in the final game as she showed intelligence in positioning herself on the floor and boxing out her opponent. Jenna had more than six blocks on the day, and Kimme, from the low post, contributed points and rebounds to the team’s effort.

Coaches Bliss and Barillaro were pleased with the result of the tournament and with the way the team members supported each other and represented their school. They commended the team for their intense, competitive play during a long and fun afternoon of basketball.

The girls’ next game is Friday, January 29, at Millbrook. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:45.
