Mr. Edson’s fifth grade science students often spend time by our ponds to observe, record, and reflect. At IMS, our mountain is our classroom and it provides unique opportunities for learning. We continually find ways to integrate our natural resources with our curriculum in order to develop students’ critical thinking and curiosity.

For example, fifth graders recently learned about John Muir, a naturalist who helped create our country’s National Parks. Inspired by Muir’s child-like curiosity, dedication, and detailed journal entries, Mr. Edson’s class will spend significant time outside studying IMS’s beautiful and ever-changing 613 acres. In the coming weeks and seasons, they will learn about local animal signs and tracks, forest life, and biodiversity.
