The IMS junior varsity tennis team defeated Rumsey for the second time in yesterday’s contest. Students played with fierce intensity and their efforts paid off.  The JV tennis team plays six game pro-sets, and, when two opponents reach 7 all, they go to a tie breaker, and then accumulate points. The tie breaker is played first to 7 or to a win by two. Four of the singles matches went to tie breakers yesterday, which illustrates how closely matched the IMS and Rumsey teams are this year.

Kyler played well during his singles match, defeated his opponent 6-2.  Although Jack lost his match, Ryan and Greg were both able to pull ahead of their opponents and defeat them in tie breakers.  Skye played perhaps the most thrilling match of the day, defeated her opponent 9-7.

IMS lost the doubles matches 1 game to 2, but they did secure the victory for the day with a final score of 5/4 in favor of IMS. The score really came down to the last two doubles matches and could have gone either way.  Kimmie and Peter, who lost in the first match against Rumsey on Friday, April 23, came back to win yesterday’s match, and their game earned IMS the winning point overall, thereby sealing the team victory.

The Falcons look forward to their match on Friday against Dutchess Day School.
