The IMS community is coming together to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month and The Jane Lloyd Fund with Pink Sock Week. The halls and classrooms are awash in pink to raise awareness for the cause. Students, faculty, and staff have purchased pink socks, headbands, and sweatbands to show their support. On Wednesday and Friday, each student-athlete will wear pink socks or shoelaces and play with pink equipment at their athletic events. Some students are setting up concessions to sell, such as breast cancer awareness hats, key chains, stickers, snacks, and drinks. In addition, students and faculty will be donating money to wear denim and pink on Friday in lieu of regular school dress.

Last year the event raised an estimated $1730 for the cause and we will once again be donating all proceeds to the Jane Lloyd Fund. Jane’s sister, Donna (Lloyd) Stoetzner is the receptionist at Indian Mountain, which makes our fundraising efforts that much more personal and important.

Jane courageously fought cancer for eight years, passing away in September of 2005. This fund was founded by the Lloyd family to respond to the generosity of the community, which helped Jane when she was in need, so that others in our community might experience the same sense of well being in their own time of need. The Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation established the Jane Lloyd Fund to benefit cancer patients and their families in northwest Connecticut. The fund supports patients’ day-to-day living expenses so that they can focus on healing or departing this life comfortably with friends and family. It is important right now that we spread the word, as the fund is very low and they have had to turn folks away who are really in need.
Donations can be made with checks payable to: the Jane Lloyd Fund. These may be given to Sheryl Knapp, Cecilia Marshall, or dropped off with the receptionist on either campus.

This event is sponsored by our Community Service Program and the Athletic Department as we continue to support our school motto: life through service.
