On a chilly spring afternoon, Indian Mountain’s boys jv lacrosse team took the field for the first time this season to take on the Dutchess Day School. For many members of the team, this match marked their very first lacrosse game. Both excited and anxious, the boys got off to a terrific start and quickly learned the details of the sport. Physical from the beginning, the first quarter saw a lot of good body checks and scoring opportunities for both teams, but it was highlighted by the strong defensive play of 6th grader Jan and quality saves by 5th grade goaltender Wyatt.  With the Falcons playing shorthanded, the boys of Dutchess Day got on the board first, only to build on their lead a few short minutes later. Despite added pressure and a flurry of shots by IMS, the first half came to a close with the Falcons trailing 2-0.

The second half started much like the first, with some monstrous body checks and hard fought battles for ground balls. Following a personal foul on Dutchess Day, IMS found themselves with an extra man on offense and took advantage with their first goal of the season. Ernesto blasted a well placed shot past the DDS goalie to cut the deficit to 1. Strong play at both ends of the field continued throughout the 3rd quarter including mastrerful stick checks by lacrosse newcomer, Carlos and physical play by midfielders Daniel and Jack. Wyatt continued to be strong in net making numerous key plays, important clearing passes, and a total of 7 saves on the day.

Still down 2-1 in the fourth quarter, Indian Mountain stepped up the pressure and put forth their greatest effort of the day. Alvaro nearly knotted up the score with a blistering shot that went just wide of the net, and Daniel followed it up with a laser off the crossbar. Feeling as though the equalizer was coming, IMS stepped up their ball movement and continued to gain possesions of the ground balls. Daniel found himself with an opening and ripped a shot past the DDS goaltender to tie the game a few minutes before time ran out. Overall, it was a thrilling start to the season and great game for the Falcons.
